About Christina

For Christina Mgalaa, flowers are a medium for composition—color, texture, form and a little unpredictability.

The founder and creative force behind Maple & Rose, Christina creates expressive floral arrangements and installations from her studio in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Her work brings together fresh-cut blooms, wildflowers and dried botanicals, often layered with unexpected artistic elements to create pieces that feel collected, personal and distinctly one of a kind.

Originally from the UK, Christina has always inhabited creative worlds. Her path has taken her through diamonds, art galleries, furniture showrooms and floristry, while extensive travel has shaped an eye drawn to bold color, beautiful objects and the imperfect beauty found in nature.

Her inspiration now moves between city and country. On a Brooklyn rooftop, Christina tends a cutting garden above the streets of Prospect Heights. In North Branch, in the Western Catskills, she is cultivating flowers and wildflowers around her farmhouse—bringing an increasingly personal and seasonal element to the materials she uses in her work.

The Maple & Rose aesthetic is intentionally difficult to categorize. Romantic without being traditional. Wild but considered. Colorful, textural and sometimes unexpected. Christina approaches flowers much as an artist approaches a canvas, allowing the character of each stem, branch and botanical element to become part of the composition.

Whether creating a singular arrangement for a home or an installation for an event, restaurant, office or retail space, Christina's aim is the same: to create something beautiful that you haven't quite seen before.
